What is PrimalStride?
I’ve been a fan of Seth Simonds’ work since I first stumbled upon him on Twitter. He runs a couple blogs and is a truly inspiring and thought provoking writer.
One of his blogs is PrimalStride. The slogan of his blog sums up the site quite well:
Little changes on the outside = BIG changes on the inside. I hope you’ll join me!
It is here that he details his quest for self improvement, focused on losing weight, gaining self esteem and generally working towards becoming a better person.
For 2010 he is starting a series of 7 day challenges, each designed to introduce one or two small lifestyle changes for a week — a trial period if you will. After the week you can decide if you like the changes or not.
Five at Five — LoneWolf Style
The first challenge which starts on January 1, 2010 is the Five at Five Challenge — rise at 5:00 am and cover 5km either walking, running, cycling, etc. You can adapt the challenge to your own situation — some will find 5 way to early (like me) and a few will find it too late. The 5km may be too much or too little for the activity you choose. The point is to make a commitment and stick to it for 7 days to see how it goes.
So, I’ve decided to accept this challenge with 2 modifications. First, I’ll be waking at 7:00 (which is still early for me) and doing 1 to 2 km of snowshoeing. I’ll bring the video camera to capture some of the action for you all — stay tuned.
Join Us!
If you’re interested in joining the challenge, or even just following along with those of us who do, pop on over to the challenge page and join in the action in the comment section.
I’m elated that you’ve decided to join in the challenge! Snowshoeing in the early morning with a video camera? We’ll finally get to see the woods you’ve talked about?
I don’t see how this could get any better.
=)

It’s gonna be fun — except the early rising part 8=) It will require some “early to bed” which I find hard, but we’ll make it.
The woods is amazing this time of year — and in the spring, and the summer, and the fall …

Ooooh, i’m glad you said you could make it later than 5am. Just thinking about waking up at that time makes me yawn! Hope it all went well

Hi Paul
Thanks for dropping in although I wish you had used your real name rather than keywords — I tend to treat those as spam comments. Even “Paul @ Cruise Lines List” would be better.
I did manage to complete the challenge but I ended up blowing out one of my snowshoes towards the end of the season. Tried to repair it for this season but it didn’t last. I’m going to have to bite the bullet and by a new pair. Hopefully they’ll be cheaper during the off season.

I am not actually aware of what is PrimalStride until I found your post. Good thing you were able to describe it here in this short discussion of yours because with this, I was able to understand its function and how it works.
