[This is an open letter to John Daly]
Dear John
I just wanted to let you know that there are lots of people out here who love you. You have brought a big thrill and joy to our lives by your exuberant play of the game of golf. While you are known for the grip it and rip it monster drives, we also love your amazing short game skills.
I know that you are in trouble again. The news seems to be full of that lately. But I don’t really care about the bad stuff. I love that you play golf with passion and finesse. I wish I had the finesse that you do but that isn’t likely to ever happen, especially with me on the wrong side of 40. But I can play with the same passion and fire that you do, no matter how unskilled or old I am the passion can be there. You inspire that!
I love that you don’t just play golf. You came to the Canadian Open years back and booked a singing gig at a local club. How many other pro atheletes have ever done that! I love that you use the travel as a way to see the country and not just a way to get from one tournament to another.
You are an inspiration to us all. But it is also obvious that you are searching for something in your personal life that just seems to be eluding you. It is unfortunate that so much of your private life becomes public and I don’t want to pry. But I do want to pass on a personal message of hope and love for you. I believe that the something that you are searching for is Jesus (he is The Lion as well). I don’t mean church although there are many good churches that will help you find Jesus. What I mean is surrendering your life to Jesus. He has a soft spot for people who are struggling and hurting. He is always there for the underdog. He doesn’t want you to change who you are, but he does want to help you become the best that he created you to be.
Larry Howard is one of my favourite blues musicians. I have a recording in which he tel how he had a hole in his life that he tried to fill with with parties, booze, drugs, etc. But the more he put in that hole, the bigger the hole would get. But then he found out that “there ain’t a hole on this earth big enough that God can’t fill it!”
Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” [Matt 11:28]
I hope that you find what you’re looking for John, and I hope that you continue to inspire your fans around the world as you show us all how the game of golf was meant to be played.
Shalom

HiWolf, Just stopped by to see what you were up to and I found your post. I immediately had to google John Daly and check him out, I did know he was a golfer! I just didn’t know what had happened or if something had happened lately. I think what you wrote comes from your heart and it makes you seem like a very deep person and one that would be a loyal friend. It does seem like from his actions that he is searching for something and during this search he’s sabotaging his life. Let’s hope that he can find peace or help from within. Great post very poignant!

John is definitely a “man of the people” and brought golf to a whole new demographic.
