Many in the golf world are abuzz with the posting of an amazing 59 by Harrison Frazar in the fourth round of Q School. Reading about his amazing feat reminds me of the Sunday I was watching David Duval having his way with PGA West Palmer Private course.
I remember the anticipation as I watched birdie after birdie along the back nine. I doubt that I was alone in hoping that he would be able to finish with a 58 but the 59 was still amazing.
59 seems to be a magic number for professional golfers but I can’t help but be inspired by the thinking of Pia Nilsson and Vision 54. Given that every hole is an opportunity for a birdie the ultimate goal of a golfer should be 18 under par (i.e. 54 on a par 72). When you consider that during a given tournament a player may birdie each of the 18 holes at least once during 4 (or 5) rounds, why not a single round?
Why is it that 59 is the closest that anyone has ever come to achieving this dream round?
While 54 (or 59 for that matter) is unrealistic for me, I do have a magic number that is the dream round for me. Since I am striving to be a bogey golfer an average round for me should be 90. This is a bogey on each hole of a par 72. I still have yet to reach this level but for now it is my goal. Given that I am capable of par on any given hole on any given day (except for the dreaded 13th at Huntsville Downs) then my dream round should be an even par 72.
This is something that I will be thinking about as I prepare for the snow to go away and once again expose the beautiful, green golf courses of Muskoka. I will be looking at the Vision54 system and seeing how I can apply its principles to my own game.
Here’s hoping there’s a 54 in your future!
Shalom
good plan my friend! You raise an interesting question, if I can make a par on one hole, I should be able to make par on all the holes. Alas, for me, should and could are two totally separate things that will never be in harmony with one another…..kind of like me and my wife… HA!
